I’ve been an entrepreneur for a while now, but the day I became a mom, it was proved that I can be pushed beyond my means.
Being an entrepreneur means you’re a problem solver, it means you are sometimes stretched beyond your capacity. It is not just about starting or running a business. It’s about mindset or a different way of thinking.
Being entrepreneurial can mean knowing your industry inside out and being able to exploit that knowledge to create new opportunities. Being entrepreneurial can mean celebrating so-called failures as learning and growing experiences, it is simply thinking outside of the box, and expecting the unexpected. Does this not sound exactly like being a mom?
Yes, being a mom is to give birth; or to adopt a baby or children, to have a family that you take care of. But being a mother is also about much more than that, don’t you think?
For me, motherhood is seeing the profound value in learning about who your children are, and then encouraging and teaching them to be the best versions of themselves. Being a source of confidence and knowing when to talk and when to listen…understanding that there is no learning curve, every day is an adventure.
Take all those qualities of being a mom, and think about how strong you have become. Then think about how possible it is for you to take on a business. Maybe you may think that taking care of your kids is something that you have to do, you don’t have a choice because the kids are here whether you like it or not but if you took that very same thinking and put it into business, think about all the possibilites that you could bring to life.
It’s time to make it happen, challenge yourself to start, or make your business work no what. Treat it like your own baby.
You already have what it takes, all you need to do is change your thinking and get your success mindset in check. Breathe life into those ideas and build that business you’ve been thinking about, be a rock star in your chosen industry.
Key characteristics that you need as a mom and as an entrepreneur.
- Being a mom and being an entrepreneur, you need to have patience.
- Being a mom and being an entrepreneur, you need to be disciplined.
- Being a mom and being an entrepreneur, you need to have a thick skin.
- You need to expect that things are not always going to go as planned every day might be a challenge and an adventure.
- Both can bring anxiety and overwhelming emotions.
Even though it can be a bit challenging taking on these roles, there’s some large, overwhelming, and beautiful feeling at the centre of motherhood and entrepreneurship that is so hard to put words to.
Tip; Partner with your family. Too often we think of career and family life as two entirely different worlds. I’ve found it important and helpful to my business to bring my husband and children into the process, rather than seeing my work as an obstacle to my family life or vice versa
